The Lotus Center
We’d like to welcome you to The Lotus Center! We are a non-profit, recovery resource, substance use disorder, outpatient facility located in Moorhead, MN. We provide services to adults (18 and older), from both Minnesota and North Dakota. We aim to provide connections to members of our community who struggle with substances, whether that be with treatment, housing, outreach, or a friendly chat.
Harm Reduction
The Lotus Center takes a harm reduction approach to working with our clients. While abstinence remains the ultimate goal for most clients, we understand it may not be achievable, nor desirable, for everyone. Any positive change is met with encouragement and is a step in the right direction. The program does not depend solely on traditional 12-step models, but it does support those who find this approach beneficial. Our hope is that for those who may not find continuous abstinence; if offered support, they can find some freedom from substances, a sense of purpose, and a new direction within their community.
We understand there are many pathways to recovery and no one approach will work for every individual. Harm Reduction means many things:
- We work with individuals who may have a recurrence. If appropriate, their treatment plan or referral to a higher level of care will be made.
- Our program does not require abstinence to be the ultimate goal. We do educate and emphasize that abstinence from substances provides a better chance for a healthier lifestyle, but it is not forced. We focus on client-identified goals and help individuals achieve their goals.
- We focus on “positive change”. Reducing harm in a client’s life is a cause for celebration and encouragement.
